Biography
Kevin Jenne Artist
Canadian artist Kevin Jenne has spent more than twenty five years developing a distinctive practice that explores transformation, resilience, and the emotional power of nature. Based in Montreal, Jenne's work has been exhibited internationally across Canada, the United States, Mexico, Europe, and Asia, and is held in numerous private and corporate collections.
A defining aspect of Jenne's process begins not in the studio but outdoors. In quiet winter forests surrounded by snow and silence, he carries blank canvases into nature and presses snow and ice directly into the surface along with oil paint. As the materials melt, freeze, and shift, the environment leaves its own mark before the work returns to the studio. This collaboration with nature introduces elements of chance and transformation that have become central to his artistic language.
The inspiration for his recent body of work emerged during a visit to Titanic Belfast. While learning about the sinking of the RMS Titanic, Jenne discovered that the iceberg associated with the disaster had been identified as Canadian. The detail sparked a new perspective. Ice, a familiar presence within the Canadian environment, suddenly carried deeper symbolic meaning.
I began to think about the dual nature of ice, Jenne explains. Its beauty and its danger. Its fragility and its power.
The idea also echoed an early artistic influence. As a young artist Jenne encountered the monumental ice paintings of Frederic Edwin Church at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Churches dramatic Arctic visions helped shape Jennes understanding of ice not only as a visual subject but also as a metaphor for human experience.
At the centre of Jennes recent work is the iceberg. More than a natural form it becomes a symbol of pressure, adversity, and resilience. Through layered texture, shifting colour, and dynamic movement, his paintings explore emotional contrasts such as softness and hardness, stillness and motion, fragility and strength. These tensions create expressive icescapes that reflect the delicate balance between vulnerability and endurance.
Jenne has presented numerous solo exhibitions throughout his career including ECHOES in 2025 and Abstractions in 2024 at the University Club of Montreal, Poetic Attention in 2024 at McGill University, Summer Ice Storm in 2020 at Meteque Art Gallery, and the Land Escapes exhibitions in Montreal and at Fairmont Chateau Montebello. Earlier solo exhibitions have taken place in Toronto, Chicago, Nashville, and New York along with international exhibitions in Mexico and Beijing.
His paintings are held in notable corporate and private collections including Brian Mulroney, the McGill University Health Centre, Cisco, LG Chem, Caisse Desjardins Ukrainienne de Montreal, and the University of Southampton.
Guided by questions such as How do we find joy within hardship and Can beauty exist alongside struggle and hope, Jennes paintings become collaborations between nature, time, and intention. His work reflects a philosophy of embracing uncertainty, responding to the moment, and discovering resilience within change.
His paintings are held in notable corporate and private collections including former Prime Minister of Canada Brian Mulroney, the McGill University Health Centre, Cisco, LG Chem, Caisse Desjardins Ukrainienne de Montreal, and the University of Southampton. His paintings and artistic process have also been featured in a range of international and Canadian media including The New Yorkers, Global News, and CTV News, as well as in the pages of The Montreal Gazette and on the cover of Bay Varrata Magazine.
In addition to his studio practice, Jenne has collaborated on creative corporate projects with several international companies including Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Sysco, and Medtronic. He has also worked on a special creative project with renowned Canadian athlete Georges St Pierre, bringing his artistic perspective into unique collaborations that bridge art, culture, and business.

Artist Statement

Ice reveals both fragility and strength, and my work explores the beauty that emerges between these forces.
Using a process I developed that combines oil paint with natural elements such as snow and ice, I create paintings shaped through a direct collaboration with the winter environment. As these materials freeze and melt on the canvas, they form complex textures and patterns that cannot be controlled or repeated. These surfaces establish the emotional foundation of each work.
Every painting begins outdoors during the winter, where snow and ice are applied directly to the canvas with oil paint. As temperatures shift, nature leaves unpredictable marks before the work returns to the studio.
Icebergs often emerge as the central form within these textured landscapes. For me, the iceberg is both a landscape element and a symbol of pressure, fragility, strength, and endurance. Human figures appear within these environments, introducing scale and vulnerability while suggesting the ways people navigate uncertainty and adversity.
Inspired in part by reflections on the history of the Titanic and by the monumental frozen landscapes of Frederic Edwin Church, these works explore the dual nature of ice and its metaphorical connection to human experience.
Each painting is the result of a collaboration between environment, time, and artistic intention, ensuring that no work can ever be repeated.
