About

The Artist
Kevin Jenne is an innovative painter who grew up in a small farming community in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. At 18 he moved to Montreal and soon began painting, leading to many international exhibitions. His constant experimentation has led to his present work, where he paints outdoors in winter, using ice and paint to shape a new form of Canadian art.
The melting ice creates unique textures and organic patterns across the surface that resemble rugged natural landscapes formed by wind, water, and time. Inspired by a deep connection with nature and a sense of stillness, his work explores the relationship between cold and warmth, strength and softness, and nature and humanity in a search for balanced resilience and deeper meaning within the chaos.
The canvases are later brought into the studio and completed with oil paints, where subjects such as icebergs and human figures emerge. Through this process, Jenne blends natural forces with artistic intention, creating paintings that reflect the quiet power, mystery, and emotional presence of contemporary life.

Artist Statement
Ice reveals both fragility and strength, and my work explores the beauty that emerges between these forces.
Using a process I developed that combines oil paint with natural elements such as snow and ice, I create paintings shaped through a direct collaboration with the winter environment. As these materials freeze and melt on the canvas, they form complex textures and patterns that cannot be controlled or repeated. These surfaces establish the emotional foundation of each work.
Every painting begins outdoors during the winter, where snow and ice are applied directly to the canvas with oil paint. As temperatures shift, nature leaves unpredictable marks before the work returns to the studio.
Icebergs often emerge as the central form within these textured landscapes. For me, the iceberg is both a landscape element and a symbol of pressure, fragility, strength, and endurance. Human figures appear within these environments, introducing scale and vulnerability while suggesting the ways people navigate uncertainty and adversity.
Inspired in part by reflections on the history of the Titanic and by the monumental frozen landscapes of Frederic Edwin Church, these works explore the dual nature of ice and its metaphorical connection to human experience.
Each painting is the result of a collaboration between environment, time, and artistic intention, ensuring that no work can ever be repeated.
